THE GENERAL SYNOD.

SESSION OPENS TO-DAY.

The 22nd itession of the New Zealand Anglican General Synod will be opened at St. Mary's Hall, Parnell, this afternoon at 3 o'clock. It is expected that tho session will extend over 10 days or a fortnight; The bishops who are now in Auckland and will attend the Synod are: The Acting-Primate (Bishop Julius, of Christchurch), Bishop Averill, of Auckland, Bishop Sprott, of Wellington, Bishop Sadlier, of Nelson, Bishop Sedgwick, of Napier, and Bishop Steward, Bishop Richards, of Dunedin, nas not yet arrived, but is expected to-day. There will also be three clergy and four laymen from each of the six New Zealand dioceses and two clergy and two laymen from the Melanesian diocese. Tho ActingPrimate will deliver his opening address after the house meets this afternoon. Holy Communion is to be celebrated at 8 o'clock this morning in St. Mary's Cathedral. Members of the synod attended a choral evensong in St. Mary's Cathedral last evening. The sermon was preached by Bishop Sprott, of Wellington, his subjectbeing " That the Church's objective is the deliverance of this age from tho inception of evil"
