FALSE PRETENCES.
WOMAN SECURES BENZINE. [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN COBEESPOHDENT.] HAMILTON, Tuesday. A married woman about 40 years of age was charged at the Hamilton Court this morning with obtaining by means of false pretences two cases o? benzine from the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Company. It was alleged that the woman had gone to the factory representing herself to be the wife of an employee of the company. Her husband had, however, been paid off a short while ago and eho was therefore not entitled to receive the benzine. Defendant pleaded that she had been able to secure benzine when her husband was employed by the company and she understood her husband was shortly to be taken on again.' She had: returned the benzine as soon as she had learned there was to be any trouble. Mr. H. A. Young, 8. M,, convicted the woman and ordered her to come tip for sentence if called upon within six months and to pay witnesses' expenses £2 10s.
