YOUNG CITIZENS' LEAGUE.

NEED FOR EXTENSION.

SUPPORT FOR PROPOSAL.

The necessity of co-ordinating andvustaining tho efforts of the Young Citizens' League was emphasised by toe president, Mr. E. C. Cuttcn, S.M., in an address on tho work of the league with a view to an extension of its efforts", at a meeting of citizens called by the Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gunson, and held in the committee room' at the Town Hall yesterday. The Mayor presided. Mr. Gunson referred to the remarkable •work which had been done by the league id the last three years, and commended its objects to the citizens generally. He congratulated Mr. Cuttcn on the results that had been achieved.

Mr. Cutten said that in order that the full effect of the work might be felt, it was essential to create an individual interest on the part of all thoughtful citizens. The league had succeeded in awakening the public conscience to the need for character training, so that each boy and girl might aspire to good citizenship. In New Zealand the point had been reached when character training was-the most important factor in education. Each thinking citizen should 1 do something to create better conditions for all concerned. Mr. Cutten referred to the support the league had received throughout the Dominion.

It was unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr T. H. Macky, that fill present should form a committee to place the movement on a financial footing.. Mr Cntten thanked the MavOr for the very great interest he ha/1 taken in the work of the leasme since its inauguration, and said he hoped the outcome of the meeting would be an augmented effort on behalf of the* young people of the community.
