RECOVERY CONTINUES.

IMPROVEMENT IN FEBRUARY.

IMPORTS STILL LOW.

Imports for February showed a decrease in value of £27,635,579, and exports of £9,666,621, as compared with February of last year. Re-exports increased by £2,169,857.

The principal decreases in imports were: Meat, £6,380,163; grain and flour, £3,282,869; other nondutiable food and drink, £8,253,836; iron and steel, £2,269,995.

The chief decreases in exports wero: Cotton, yarns, and manufactured goods, £6,690,333; iron and steel, £2,557,206; woollen, worsted, and yarns, £1,867,603.

Tho principal increases were £2,537,131 in imports of dutiable food and drink, and £5,576,717 in exports of vehicles, including locomotives, ships, and aircraft. The following is a summary of the returns of the overseas trade of the United Kingdom for the past 11 months, showing the total shrinkage in round figures and the percentage of shrinkage compared with tho returns of the corresponding months of 1920-21:— IMPORTS.

The above figures show that the steady improvement in the export trade that started after the settlement of the disastrous coal strike last August was considerably accelerated in February.
