FRENCH PAPER'S ATTACK.
MONUMENT TO GOLDEN CALF A *nd N.Z. PARIS. March 18. The newspaper Gaulois, commenting on the United States claim of £48,000,000 for the maintenance of her army on the Rhine, says:—"The United States unexpectedly claims her part of the legitimate booty exacted from Germany. To-morrow, perhaps, tho United States may exact payment of the Allies' debts. What will it profit her to rub our unhappy Continent ? What will she gab by raising, with our milliards, alongside the Statue of Liberty, a grandiose monument to the Golden Calf? The United States plunged bto the water the moment wo looked like drownbgj but what can one think of a rescuer who will abandon without help the person whom he has just pulled from a watery grave?"
