GROCERY PRICES FALL.

OATMEAL AND BISCUITS.

CHRISTCHURCH REDUCTIONS [by telegraph.—press association.] CHEISTCHTJRCH. Tuesday. The latest reduction in the cost of breakfast foods is to be a drop in the price of oatmeal of about 6d a bag of 251b.. and a reduction from Is 8d to Is 6d is the cost of prepared breakfast foods. The decline in the price of oatmeal has not yet actually taken place, but prepared foods are already being sold at the lower price. As far as oatmeal is concerned, some extraordinary fluctuations have taken place. " A week ago " says the Christchurch Star, "grocers received advice that oatmeal was to come down by £4 a ton wholesale, but to-day they were informed the reduction was to bo £2 only. Oatmeal has all along been ona of the lines which grocers have 'cut* in price." j A reduction in the price of biscuit* is _ to be made this week in sympathy with the lower prices ruling for flour. ', The extent of the reductions has not beeD communicated 'to retailers vat. but they are informed that purchases made this week will be charged up at tie «• ducedl rates. The public should be abls to obtain tho benefit of lower prices within the next few days. Tea quotations are verv firm and a nse of 2d per lb. has already been made for one well-known brand of packet tea. Other brands may advance any time. On < the pther hand some grocers are inclined to think no justification exists for advancing prices.
