MANUKAU COUNTY COUNCIL.
The Manukau County Connoil met yesterday, Mr. F. M. Waters presiding.
Tho State Advances Office notified that the sum'of £1500 had been remitted to the credit of the- Maraetai roads loan account, and £1000 on account of the Wiri Station Road loan.
The Government's intention to dispose of tbe landing reserve at Mangere was the subjeot oi a communication from the Prime Minister, forwarded to the council by Sit Frederick Lang, M.P. Tbe letter expressed the intention to include in the next "Washinc Up " Bill a clause cancelling the reservation and declaring tbe area, amounting to seven acres, to be Crown land available for disposal undor tbe Land Act, 1908, If the council so desired, a clause could be included in the Bill enabling the sum of £ 1000 to be raised by loan for the purposo of purchasing other laud for recreation reserves, The question of a Government Bubsidy will be considered later. The Takanini Welfare League wrote asking if it were possible for two representatives of Papakura Riding to sit on the council instead of one, as at present. The suggestion was not entertained, in view of tbe likelihood of . other ridings making similar repiesentations, thus making the county body too unwieldy. The Takanini League also drew attention to the danger involved in the presence of an unlightod motor-lorry which was being left at night in Manukau Road, Takanini. A further request was made for the council's ranger to make frequent visits to the district in view of complaints regarding cattle wandering on tbe roads at night. iThe Mataitai-Te Kawakawa Ratepayers' Association wrote urging the necessity of metalling the portion of the road along which the properties of its members were situated, fc which work the Government had made o (rant of £200. In view of the fact that payment of Government _ grants for metalling had been suspended, it was resolved thht the Minister for Publio Works be reouestrcl to make a epeoial oase of the matter and permit the grant to be used for the purpose desired. ' It was agreed to support the Napier Borough Council's request for legislation providins that credit balances of loan accounts should be set off against debit balances of other accounts, as regards interest charges oi> bank overdrafts. It was also agroed to support the Otago Hospital Board's protest against the increased fees for audit,
