CHILD FATALLY BURNED.

MATCH STRUCK BY PLAYMATE.

An inquest touching the death of.the little girl, Marie Lillian Hefferen, aged three years and eight months, who was fatally burned on Monday afternoon, was held by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., yesterday. The facts disclosed were that three children were playing together in Baker Street, off Nelson Street. One of them, a five-year-old boy, struck a wax match and theji threw it away. It fell on deceased's dress, which caught fire. She ran toward her home, her clothes burning. Her mother and another woman rushed to meet her and managed to extinguish the flames, but the child was severely burned. She was admitted to the Auckland Hospital about three o'clock and died shortly after eight o'clock that night. A verdict was returned to the effect that death was due to shock following burns accidentally caused by a lighted match being thrown on her dress. A verdict of death from heart failure was returned at the inquest on Mr. William Tuck, a married carter, aged 66, who expired suddenly at the tip m Meadowbank Road on Monday. A similar verdict waa returned in respect to the death of Mr. Albert Bodcn, aged 40, a tram motorman, who waa found dead in bed at his residence, Islington last Friday morning.
