■ ♦ Mr. C. H. Hayward, a member of the Dunedm City Council, left for the South last evening, Mr. F. W. G. Herdman, of Wangaiiu, is reported to be seriously ill. He is a brother of Mr. Justice Herdman. The Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout is at present spending a holiday in Dunedin and will return to Wellington shortlj, ' Dr. Sands, medical officer for the Hawke's Bay district for the past two years, is shortly leaving Napier to reside in Sydney. His Honor Judge Rawson, native trustee, is at present in Gisborne on trati"e business connected vrith the East Coas-, Native Trust. Mr. P. A. Cullen was on Saturday ad mitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court by Mr. Justice Stringer, on the motion of Mr. Cahill. The Rev. W. Cieighton MoDonnall has arrived in Christchurch, after 10 years' absence from New Zealand as a missionary in North China. Drs. R. H. Walton, Neil McDougall and Tracy Inglis left for Wellington last evening to attend the Medical Conference to bo held in the southern city. Mr. Justice Chapman is at present on circuit, at New Plymouth. Jlr. Justice Reed is at Palmerston North, from where he will go oh to Napier and Gisborne. Mr. W. C. Christie, manager of th 9 Stratford branch of the Bank of New South Wales, has received notice of his promotion and transfer to the charge of the bank's branch at Palmerston North, succeeding Mr. John Munro, who haf' retired on superannuation, and who was manager at Stratford some years ago. Mr. Christie's successor at Stratford is to be Mr. R. F. Malfrom, of the inspector's staff at the head office, Wellington. Rev. C. H. Laws, president of the Methodist Conference, was granted leave by thst body on Saturday to visit England in 1923. The Methodist Theological College Committee 15 to arrange for n substitute in the mtantime. Similar pe;--misshn was given the Rev. H. L. Blirmires, of Nelson. It was further decided that Mr. Lawsi should be relieved from his duties in order to conduct a series of. centenary conventions throughout the. Dominion during this year, and that the Rev. H. Ranston should give astu'stancfl to Mr. Laws by acting as special lecturer at the Theological College. A probationer will be appointed to Kingsland circuit in order to relieve Mr. Rsnston for these duties.
