HERO OF SHARK TRAGEDY.

MEDAL FOR NEW ZEALANDER. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Feb. 18. The Shipwreck Relief Society has awarded a gold-medal to Mr. Jack Chalmers, who went to the assistance qf a man when attacked by a shark at Coogee.

Mr. Jack Chalmers is a native of Wellington. His father, Mr. Jack Chalmers, was a well-known first-class racing track cyclist about 20 years ago.
