A mass meeting of members of the Meat Industries Union decided that there should be no direct extension of the present dispute concerning slaughtermen, carters and drovers until another general meeting is held. Meanwhile meat supplies are dwindling. The Stock and Station Agents' Association has decided not to hold stock sales during tho coming week
BADAK TIN MINE CASE. EDITOR'S ALLEGED CONTEMPT. MELBOURNE, Feb. 16. T. W, Orton, 011 c of the three directors committed for trial in connection with the Badak tin mine case has applied for an order nisi calling on the editor of the Melbourne Punch to show cause why he should not bo committed for contempt of Court in connection with the publication of an articlo dealing with the Badak case. The only steel furnace working at Lithgow Ironworks has been closed owing to accumulation of steel caused by lack of orders. MOUNT MORGAN CONFERENCE. BRISBANE, Feb. 16. It has been agreed to hold a compulsory conference in Brisbane on Friday in connection with the Mount Morgan mining jlispute. OPENING THE WEST. PERTH. Feb. 16. The Premier, Mr. James Mitchell, bofore sailing for London, stated that he had authorised clearing 1,000,000 acres, to be followed by another 1,000,000. He hoped to encourage tropical agriculture, including cotton growing, TENNIS CHAMPIONS' MATCH. SYDNEY, Feb. 16. The Tennis Association has arranged exhibition games between J. O. Anderson and G. L.
