AUSTRALIAN STAFF CORPS.
A FURTHER REDUCTION.
Confirmation has been received of the probable reduction of the Australian Staff Corps, which numbers 247 officers, by approximately 70 officers, whose services may be dispensed with in the near future, says a Sydney paper.
Though at first amazed at the crushing blow to the defend forces involved in stoppage of camps, and deluged with complaints on the subject, the citizen force is courageously carrying on, and is endeavouring to fill partially by voluntary work the gap in training. This is the idea of both the infantry divisional commanders in Sydney. The commanding officers of artillery have consulted with battery commanders, and it has been decided to hold a series of classes throughout the coming season. One batch of the men under instruction will be non-commissioned officers who will take a qualifying course for commissions. A programme of parades on alternate Saturday afternoons is being considered.
