BRITISH TRADE RETURNS.

Imports in January decreased by exports by £29,609,145. and re-exports by £1,496,253, as compared with the previous January.

Tho principal decreases in imports were:--Grain and flour, £5,416,105; meat, £4,995,768; non-dutiable food and drink, £4,304,273; raw cotton, £2,976,990; iron and steel, £2,496,296; oils, fats and resins, manufactured, £5,457,516. In exports the chief decrcasos were:—lron and steel, £4,831,853; cotton yams and manufactures, £7,159,156; woollen and worsted yarns and manufactures, £2,891,050.

The following is a summary ot the returns of the overseas Hade of tho United Kingdom for the past 10 months, showing the total shrinkage in round figures and the percentage of shrinkage compared with the returns of the corresponding montJis of 1920-21:-
