SOUTH AFRICAN MINERS.
FEW RESUME WORK.
LONG STRIKE IN PROSPECT.
LABOUR LEADER ARRESTED,
Bj- Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Reuter. CAPETOWN, Feb. 13.
The Supreme Court at Pretoria refused an application for the release on bail of Shaw and four other strike leaders, who were arrested last week. Mr. Boydell, Leader of the Labour Party,, is the latest to be arrested.
The miners are preparing for a strike extending over three months.
Very few men responded to the appeal to return to work in the goldmines, which are heavily picketed. As the result of the rejection of General Smuts' proposals it is feared that the strike is entering a more serious stage.
About 50 pickets were arrested and were allowed out on bail.
The stamps are now working at four or five mines, and it is expected that more will start to-morrow.
