AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRY.

LABOUR AND CONFERENCE.

UNGROUNDED SUSPICIONS. A. and r.Z. MELBOURNE, Feb. 14.

Mr. W. M. Hughes announces that February 22 has been provisionally fixed for the round-table conference to discuss the industrial situation.

Criticising tho opposition of Labour officials to his proposal, Mr. Hughes explamod that there was no intention to entrap Labour, but it was desired that the workers should reap the same benefits from the conference method as were reaped by Ireland and at Washington.

Mr. Hughes added that unless the cost of production was reduced unemployment on a large scale was inevitable.
