[BS TELEGRAPH. —OWN fcOBRESPONDEKT. J IS AROHA, Tuesday. An energetic committee has been to canvass the town find neighbourhood for donations to the Auckland Provincial Orphan Homes' Appeal Fund. Mr. C. Andrew has been elected president of the Cycling and Athletic Club, with a strong executive. The next 6ports meeting is to be held on Easter Monday, and the proceeds devoted to the improvement of the sports ground. The work of improving the second terrace of the Bridge Domain for athletics is already in hand, and a further £150 is required to make it suitable for sports meetings, football, cricket, etc. The present ground, has proved far too small to accommodate the large crowds that attend the sports meetings on New Year's Day and Easter Monday. The secondary department of the re-cently-reestablished District High School opened yesterday with 27 students, and in a day or two it is hoped to have tho attendance up to 35. This would entitle the department to a second teacher. The third shoot of the local Gun Club s competition for the president's rose bowl was won bv Robertson. The best averages to date are those of Burgess, Glenn, Robertson, and Farmer, with 11 out of 12 in each round. Yesterday afternoon thermometers in the shade registered well over 80 degrees. The day was quite the hottest registered this summer.
