During the progress of the Auckland Trotting Club's Summer Meeting at Alexandre, Park in December last Mr. C. L. Hill elected tho purchase of the Australian-bred folding Tradesman for 500gns. The Auckland sportsman had not to wait long for a win to come his way with his Australian purchase, for Tradesman won tho Cashmere Handicap at Addington on Sntuidoy, and by all accounts acquitted himsiilf very satisfactorily. Tradesman is engaged in the Aleiandra Handicap (two niiiesi to be decided at the Otahuhu Trotting Club's meeting on Saturday. Originally Tradesman was hamucapped for the race in question at 96yds behind the limit division, but, in a review of tho position provided for in tho conditions, the handic3DDer. Mr. F. W. Jiidwards, placed him 122 yds behind. Tradesman, it mav be remarked, forms one of the team handled by J. Bryee-

Locanda Dillon's win in tho Midsummer Handicap at Addington on Saturday sorves to bring him prominently forward in the list of candidates for honours in the Otahuhu K. UD '_ In the handicap originally cast for the Otahuhu Cup the Canterbury golding was placed 36yds from the limit division, but in tho rehandicap Mr. Edwards has placed him 96yda behind. Betrayer, who won tho Juvenile Handicap (one mile and five furlongs) at Addington on Saturday last, is credited with acquitting himself very attractively, and he easily defeated Latona and Ratana on even terma in 3m lis Betrayer is a chestnut gelding by grent Locanda, and is owned by Mr FO'Connell.

The Hawke a Bay Trotting Club, which is one of the bodies without a totalisator permit, has deemed it advisable to call a halt for the time being, and that means that they will not hold a meetng thin season. Fftor's to obtain a totalisator permit are not to he relaxed, and it is hoped that when ther* is a redistribution tho chili's claims to consideration will be successful.

With increased attendances at Alexandra Park congestion at times has been marked at the main entrance where tickets for the enclosure have to be procured and collected. An alteration has now been made at the toint named, which will greatly relieve tho pressure experienced of late.

Another advance iu up-to-date procedure has been made by the in=tal'ing of a farrier on the ground nt Alexandra Pnrk. The man fulfilling that important post at Epsom in Mr. Richard Healer, a recent arrival frcm America, who is regarded as an expert in his business.

The flags will bo once a«ain flying at Alexandra Park on Saturday next, when the O'.ahuhu Trotting Club will open their summer meeting. A recent visit to the Epsom ground revealed that ';verything is in capital order. and in the event, of the weather being in keemnc with the season, some very interesting contests can be einected to eventuate. The horees engaged in the first event ar j i. Paraded in the birdcage at 11.30 and the programme will be run off in the following order:-Trial Handicap (one mile and a-balf), Tamaki Handicap (one mile and a-Quartor), Alexandra Handicap (two miles). Otahuhu Cup Handicap two miles), Mount Albert Handicap (one mill, and a-half), Papakura | Handicap (one rule and a-ha!f), President s Handicap (one mile and a-quarter) and 'Railway Handicap lone mile).

OHINEMURI JOCKEY CLUB. Nominations for all event:; to be run at the Ohinemuri Jockey Club's meeting, wnich. take.? Place on March 17 and 1?, close on Saturday next at 8 p.m.. and the same can be lodced either with the secretary, Mr H Poland, Paeroa, or with Mr. C. F. Mark. High Street, Auckland.
