CARPENTIER AND COOK.

INTEREST IN THE FIGHT. DEBATING THE CHANCES. Australian and NZ. Cable Association. (Reed. 10.10 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 8. Interest in the Carpentier-Cook match is growing very keen as the date approaches. Many visitors to the respective training camps are critically watching the methods. Though Carpentier is tLe favourite it is confidently believed that Cook I will make a splendid fight. Sporting Li/e thinks that Cook has a very fine chance, being the type of boxer who flgbts back all the harder each time he is hurt, adding: "We can imagine him taking a good many of Carpentier's best punches, and coming back for more. The film of the Dempsey fight showed that Carpentier's defence is none too good against a man who is a master of infighting. If Cook can only keep with him long enough to land some hurtful body punches, he has a reasonable chance of victory." The Sunday Express considers that Carpentier will win if it is a contest at long range, but will expect a victory for Cook if Carpcntier elects to fight at closo/quarters. The News of the World states that Carpentier may be able to force a win.at an early stage, owing to his skill and accuracy, but if Cook laits the first five rounds his greater stamina and recuperative powers may enable him to matter the Frenchman. Reynolds' Newspaper predicts that Carpentier's greater experience and superior punishing powers will enable him to overcome Cook's superior style, speed and strength.
