Addressing the conference of the Educational Association, held alt University College, London, Mr. Albert Mansbridge, of the Workers' Educational Association, emphasised that vocational training with reference to the needs of emigrants profoundly affected the future of the British Empire. Only the fit were welcomed in the Dominions. Australia really meant her motlto, "Advance Australia." but immigrants must do ol the right sort. Even the ordinary passer-through could not miss tho problem of unemployment in Sydney and Melbourne. They did not want men who would become unemployed. Mr. Mansbridge urged the co-operation of the English and Dominion educational authorities. THE GAIN TO AUSTRALIA. 10,000 ACCEPTED IN TWO MONTHS. (Reed- 2.30 p.m.) LONDON. Deo. 31 In anticipation of to-day's expiry of the privilege of fre<3 passages to ex-service men the Commonwealth Migration Department has been busily engaged in recruiting young and active men, for suitable farmworker!!, from all parte of England aud Scotland. It is estimated that over 50,000 have been interviewed in the last two months. About 10,000 have been accepted, mostly for Victoria and West Australia, to go out next year. Since March 31 the number of emigrants shipped to date has been : New South Wales, 4021 j Victoria, 3730; Queensland, 745; South Australia. 649; We-t Australia, 845; Tasmania, 455. The present rate of daily acceptances shows that the yearly total will be 35,000 There is a gratifying increase in the nominated passengers. It would be easily oossible to secure 100,000 atnually if desirable. Families who cannot be accepted under present conditions could be taken care of under the auspices of the New Settlers' League.
