RECORD BUTTER OUTPUT
THIS SEASON TO DATE. S ÜBST ANTIAL IN C' REA SE. FALLING OFF IN CHEESE. The expectations formed narly in the | spring that there would be a record output j of butter in the Auckland district tins j I season arc being fully borne out. b avoured | ! with an extremely good season in regard j jto weather, feed is everywhere plentiful. ! and herds have made unusually good re- ; I turns. In addition a number of properties | that were previously devoted to ( | farming are being utilised this season lor. dairying. The butter output this year to date u i much in excess of last year's product™ though there is a shrinkage in ihe che>ff® returns. There is every likelihood that, i in view of the decline in tho butter market at Home, a number of factories which have hitherto been manufacturing butter will turn to cheese production, and the output of the latter commodity will, no j doubt, increase during tho next three J months. In any case, however the pro- . duction from dairying may be distributed, i a considerable increase in tho total pro- | duction is assured and a new record v. ul , be established. Tho quantity of butter received into j tho Farmers' Freezing Company s grading i stores last month totalled 1fc0,566 boxes, i a record return for tbe province for any ; one month. During December, 19$, 150,460 boxes were received, last month s; receipts thut showing an increase of, 29,830 boxes compared with the coiroeponding month of last season. The quan . tity of out tor received at tho stores this I season t-o the end of December totals j 5-15,010 boses, compared with 413,860 f<>r tho corresponding period of last season, , an increase of 101,150 boxes. I The quantity of cheese received at the ; grading stores this season to tho end ot December totalled 58,897 crates compared , with 91,360 for the corresponding iw |o<l i of last season, a decrease of 32,463 crates. During last month 19,643 crates were ro- j ceived. compared with 28,987 during De-1 oember, 1920. a decrease of 9544 crates. ; In December 79,883 boxes of butter wero j shipped by the Port Victor and 18. 000 by i the Niagara. In addition the Port Darwin > has just loaded 40,035 boxes of bir.ter and 2000 crates of cheese. During tho present month fairly large consignments of both butter and cheese will he taken bv the Ruahine, Arawa, Makura, md j Westmeaih. The shipment by the last-; mentioned vessel is for West of EngWnd | ports. It will probably l>e a comparatively small consignment in the form of a trial shipment to test the market away from London.
