CONDITIONS IN GERMANY.
INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY. Industrial activity is the dominant note in Germany now according to the observations of Mr. E. W. Alison, jun., who returned from a trip to England and Europe by the Maheno list, evening. On every hand, he said, the German people were working hard, living well, and apparently enjoying themselves to the full. As an illustration of the effect of the exchange rates, he said that a room at a really first-class hotel in Cologne cost him 2s 6d a night in English money, whereas a room in a Canadian hotel cost £2.
