BOY SAVES COMPANION. ! VALUE OF INSTRUCTION. ! TbY TELEGRAPH.—own COBRESPONDENT ] ' WANGANUI. Friday. 1 The value of life saving as taught in the schools was further evidenced yesterday wheu a plucky rescue from drowning was made at the Imlay Wharf. A number of lads were fishing from the structure when one of them, named Edwards, fell into the main river channel where the lighters berth. The current here is strong, and as ' the boy was being carried out into the | stream a companion, N. Kearns, a lad of 14 years dived into the river fully clad 1 and went to tho assistance of the drotfn- ' ing boy- Tho latter grasped Kearns in a i dangerous grip, but his rescuer, who holds the certificate for life saving at the Gon- ! villo school, utilised to advantage what is J known as "the third method of.release," ( and brought Edwards afihore. He was un. t conscious, but here again the life-saving ' knowledge of Kearns stood him in good i stead. Resuscitating methods wore i adopted, and the boy revived. ] Every credit is due tb Kearns for his ' callant rescue, which will' no doubt bo ' brought under the notice of the Royal I Humane Society. i
