GISBORNE. Thursday.. • ; Presumably as the result of an inquiry ! made in the House of Representatives s» to freezing companies increasing their charges, tie Department of Agriculture/ has despatched a circular telegram to •"> ; freezing companies asking for information ' as to the charges they were making for this season. A copy of the telegram has-< been received by the Gisborno Sheep-.. farmers' Company, which has despatched, the following reply: — "Our company has so far made no alterations in last season's rates, but m deciding this tentatively it is recognised that under the excessive cost of labour ■<: imposed upon the industry by the Arbi--. tration Court it will be with the utmost difficulty that any return can be obtained for the capital invested. Until the Arbitration Court takes into consideration what the relative industries of the !)"■ minion can bear, the farmers and others concerned cannot hope for any improve . ment in existing conditions."
