Id furnishing a tome nowadays ono of the first matters to be taken into account is the quality of the articles bought To be of any real value, furniture must not only bo attractive to look at but capable of enduring the wear to which it will be subjected once it is put into use. These factors have been borne in mind by the Pioneer Furnishing Co-, Karangahape Road, Newton, which, though only comparatively recently established there, has already secured the patronage of a very numerous clientele. That the new firm is a progressive one, run along the right lines, will be evident after an inspection of the goods offered for sale and a glance at the prices attached thereto. In connection with the Christmas and New Year season the firm is specialising, among other things, in an attractivo window display of a children's nursery Bet. This comprises a "tall-boy" chest of drawers with glass, a bedstead, chairs, etc., all decorated with nursery designs. A special line of nursery cretonnes is also being shown—the best value in the Dominion for the type. The firm is offer, ing the utmost value at reasonable prices. The examples on show are very fine, tasteful, ana comfortable, besides bearing all the evidence of durability and quality that the most careful housewife could desire. These suites comprise four pieces — bedstead, wardrobe, dressing table, and pedestal cupboard. In carpets there are vary special bargains. The firm has just received delivery from England of a first consignment of new goods at rock'bottom prices. They include fine quality Wiltons, which range in price from £13 10s for the 9ft. by Dft. size, £14 10s for the 9ft. by 10ft. bin. size, to £16 10s for the 12ft. by 9ft. aize. The assortment also contains very fine quality Axmjnster hall runrers in the newest designs from 15s 9d to 21s per yard. Special attention is paid to the quality of bedding supplied to clients, none but the very best grade goods being allowed to go out of the establishment, though the prices are consistently low. To those in search of seasonable presents the Company, offers several special lines such as cushions in all designs, easy chairs, smoking cabinets, and last, though not least, a new patent Morris chair, adjustable to any position by the sitter without his having to leave his seat.

NORTHLAND PRIVATE HOTEL. PERFECT COMFORT ASSURED. The approach oi the holiday season usually finds large numbers of prospective visitors to Auckland searching for up-to-date private hotel accommodation; and it is fitting, therefore, that the pro. prietress of the Northland Private Hotel, situated in Upper Queen Street, should be to the fore with an announcement that her commodious hostelry is available to anyone desiring a good home while spending their Christinas vacation in the city. The Northland is a splendid four-storeyed building, comprising 100 rooms, .including between 45 and 50 bedrooms, all of which are excollently furnished,, being well ventilated, and most comfortable. One -of the main features of tho Northland Private Hotel is its interior finishings. Even on the most sultry day this houße is nice and cool, aud the inmates, no matter bow offensive the heat in the open, are able to rest without the slightest inconvenience, and thus' are in a position to avail themselves of the many opportunities of enjoying life in the city that are offered daily to visitors. One of the greatest advantages possessed by Northland is it's wonderful situation. From the balconies can be secured a wonderful view of the Waitemata Harbour, chief among Auckland's great attractions; then again it is so close to the 'centre of the city that it is an ideal hostelry for visitors and permanent boarders. The proprietress caters well for her patrons, the menu including a varied selection, of tasty dishes, which fairly make' the "rao,uth water." ' The Northland is a home away from home, the 'convenience and comfort of patrons beuiff considered in every way.
