CARPENTIER'S OPPONENT. APPRECIATION OF COOE. A. and N.Z. LONDON, Dec. 4. The London Referee publishes a remarkable study and appreciation, and a striking portrait of George Cook, the Australian boxer. It recalls Jack London'? famous boxing story, " The Abyssmai Brute," and likens Cook to the hero of that story. It says that Cook is in per feet condition, and is white al! through. He does not possess a yellow streak, but he is a rough and ready fighter in the sense that he. is not a polished boxer. He is as tough as the teak he is so fond of cutting down with the axe. The man who meets Carpeniier is the abyssmai brute come to life, and will go down to posterity as a natural fighter with a born aptitude for the game. He grew up fighting and has fought ever since.
SENEGALESE BOXER. MAY CHALLENGE CARPENTIER. A. and N.Z. PARIS. Dec. 4. The Senegalese boxer, Battling Siki, outpointed Paul Journee, and is now eligible to challenge Carpentici's position if he is able to arrange terms.
