METROPOLITAN SHOW.

OPENING DAY TO-MORROW. SPEECH BY LORD. JELLICOE. The annual show of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association, which will be held on the Epsom Show Grounds and Alexandra Park to-morrow and Saturday, promises to be one of the most interesting and successful fixtures yet held by the association. The secretary, ■ Mr. A. D. Stanley, and the members of the committee, are busily engaged in completing the arrangements, and given fine weather a large attendance is expected. The show will be officially opened by the Governor-General, Lord Jellicoe, to-morrow, at 2 p.m. The competition in nearly all classes is very gratifying, while in some instances record entries have been received. The horse section will be well represented, specially in the hunter classes. Eighteen entries have been received in the Dominion hunter class, and 24 in the maiden hunter competition. There will also be a fine showing of Clydesdale stallions. Keen interest is being maintained by breeders in the cattle classes, and very numerous entries have been received. Sheep and pigs will be shown in larger numbers than ever. The ring events, which are generally regarded as one of the most attractive features of the show, will commence tomorrow and will conclude on Saturday afternoon. Of special interest to sheep-farmers will be an exhibit of Corriedaie sheep. This breed has not previously been exhibited at the Auckland Show. A number of Toggenburg goats will also be shown. These goats- are especially suitable for people with small areas of land, and a herd has recently bean imported by the Government. The usual trade exhibits, such as farming machinery and motor vehicles, will be shown, and side shows in plenty will add to the variety and interest of the show. The Auckland Kennel Club's championship show will be held in conjunction with the A. and P. Association's show on the association's show ground. The number of dogs entered is 304, a record for the club. There are no fewer than 75 Pomeranians, 60 Fox Terriers, and good entries in most of the other sections. The ladies' bracelet classes are well filled, and an interesting class is the Pekinese, in which there are 18 competitors. A motor-bus for the convenience of exhibitors with dogs will leave the chief post office at eight o'doak to-morrow morning. The Auckland Horticultural Society's Summer Flower Show will also be held at the Show Grounds, and the blooms will be exhibited in the basement of tho showground's grandstand. Rauway excursion fares will be in force on the, days of the show, while reduced admittance "rates will be made to school children, with their teachers, to-morrow. The main entrance to the show will be at the Trotting Club's gates in Green Lane.
