HELENSVILLE NEWS.
[BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HELENSVILLE. Monday. The heavy rain that set in at 1 p.m. on Saturday and continued during the evening, while pleasing to dairy farmers, was a disappointment to local bowlers, who had looked forward to trying out the Awaroa green, which is now in first- I class condition. Frequent showers of rain were experi- j enced during Sunday and until a late j hour at night, with a lower temperature. \ Members and friends of the Awaroa! Bowling Club assembled in the Starj Theatre on Saturday afternoon to bid j farewell to Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Walters, j prior to their departure for Tauranga. I The president, Mr. W. Coutts, on behalf i of the club members, presented Mr. Vv'al-1 ters with a case of military hairbrushes,' and Mrs. Walters with a silver hot-water I jug, as small tokens of appreciation for; their valuable services for some years in the interests of the club. Afternoon tea 1 was dispensed by the ladies. At the conclusion of the Presbyterian j Bible class on Sunday afternoon, Miss j Phyllis Butterworth was the recipient of i a silver jewel casket. Miss Bailey, on behalf of the girl members of the Bible! class, made the presentation, and expressed the high esteem in which Miss Butterworth was held by the members and by all who had been associated with her.
