A DARING BURGLARY.
APARTMENT HOUSE VISITED. A daring burglary was perpetrated in an apartment house on the Terrace, Wellington. The majority of the occupants of the house were out at the time, and the proprietress had retired early. Shortly after nine o'clock a young woman (one of the occupants of the house) returned from the city. She turned out the light in the front hall, and climbed the steps to heiroom in the darkness. At the top of the stairs, on the landing, she was pushed violently, and a man, brushing past her. ran down the stairs, opened the door, and disappeared into the darkness. On entering her room the girl found it in a state of chaos. Drawers had been pulled open, and the contents strewn on the floor, a wardrobe had been opened, and the clothes were in a jumble, and altogether the condition of the room was astounding. Subsequent search among her effects showed that jewellery and money, valued at about £6 or £7, had been stolen by the nocturnal marauder. No trace of the intruder has been found.
