CHRISTCHURCH ENGINEER.
TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT.
Applications for the position of city surveyor and engineer in succession to Mr. A. Dudley Dobson, who resigned recently, after holding office for 20 years, were considered by the Christchurch City Council this week. Eighteen applications were received. The Works Committee recommended that the appointment be made from the following gentlemen:— Messrs. N. C. Staveley, J. R. Hughes, T. 0. Fox, G. F. A. Clapcott, C. R. A. Da we, T. A. Johnston, L. M. Sandston, E. Haskins. The council considered the matter at length in committee, and on resuming it was reported 'that no appointment had been made, but that, the council had decided that Mr. C. R. A. Dawe, assistant surveyor and engineer, . should carry ' on 'in charge of the department until March 31' next, at a salary at _.-t&« rate of £500 per : annum. ' :> a
