INCOME TAX LEVIES.
ADVICE OF ACCOUNTANTS.
" What has the society done in connection with the anomalous and iniquitous income tax levied in New Zealand?" asked a member of the Zealand Society of Accountants at the annual meeting at Wellington. " I think in this matter we are lacking in not having taken a lead in advising the Government," he said. "It _ is admitted that in the present Cabinet there are no accountants and ni, prominent business men; and there isno doubt commerce is suffering from the heavy income tax." The president, Mr. Walter Green,, stated in reply that the council had not been altogetfier quiescent on the subject of taxation generally, and had made representation on several occasions to the Government. The council believed it would be to the advantage of the country as a whole if the Minister or the department were to confer with the society on questions of taxation. It had also "been suggested that in any commission set up to consider the problem the society should bo jjrepresented.
