Wyliie, explained evening that th« trouble originated at the centiai sUiiion. trom some cause, not yet definitely ascertained, there ,was a failure of the suppiv of water for the condensers. this be.Tg pumped from the harbour. Consequently it was necessary t-o cut out some of the generating plant, affecting the volume and the pressure of the supply throughout the service. Further difficulty was caused through the tide being extreme]-.- low. v. that it took a long time to restore the plant to full working. Mr. Wyllie added that had this mishap not occurred the power house would have been able to carry the whole demand for power, although the raising of the load by the exceptional weather conditions would not have left much margin.
