BRITISH AIRSHIP POLICY

REPORT TO CONFERENCE. NO RECOMMENDATIONS MADE A. and N-Z. sLONDON, July 27. "A special meeting of the conference of Prime Ministers to-morrow will consider the committee's report on an airship service between Britain and the Dominions, and Mr. Ashbolt's and other civil proposals The committee does not commit itself to any scheme, but "it is -understood that the immediate result of its report will be to obviate the scrapping of the Imperial Airship Department, which the British Government contemplated doing in the middle of August. The Imperial and Dominion Governments will have the opportunity of considering the committee's report, either during or subsequent to the conference. The Australian Press Association learns that the Daily Chronicle's summary of the committee's report, published yesterday, is misleading. It is believed that the report does not make any recommendations whatever, but merely sets out the costs of commissioning and operating the existing fleet of airships for the purposes of Imperial communications between England, India, Africa, Australia, and New Zealand, as compared with alternative services by aeroplanes. The committee dealt with various schemes involving Governmental expenditure.
