FRENCH TRADE REVIVAL
A FAVOURABLE BALANCE. FIRST SINCE THE WAR. ("Received 11.30 p.m.) RMJter- PARIS. July 27. For the first :ime since the -war a favourable French trade balance is revealed. Far tiie first six months of 1921 imports totalled 10,500 millions of francs and 16.000,000 tons, and exports totalled 10,750 millions of francs and 7,326.000 tons. Imports declined by 1,000,000 franca and 6,000,000 tons compared with the previous corresponding period. FRENCH BURDEN OF DEBT. TOTAL OF £11,000 MILLIONS. £_ and N.Z. PARIS. July 27. M. Doumars, in a pre-Budget statement, points out that the total French debt amounts to 264,000 millions of francs .(nominally about £11,000 millions) False hopes had been entertained that conquered Germany' would bear France's ■whole financial sacrifices, bat the only Bale road was to balance exactly expenditure and receipts. The estimated military expenditure for 1922 showed a reduction of 500 millions of francs compared witfa 1921.
