PERSISTENT STOWAWAYS.
FOUND ON OVERSEAS SHIP.

At the Lyttelton Magistrates Court today, Donald Innis, John Hind, and William John Myer were charged with beinj? idle and disorderly persons. All pleaded guilty. They were further charged with attempting to leave New Zealand as stowaways on the Canadian Planter, bound for New York.
Acting-Detective Joyce stated that tha three men had been found by the customs officials and the police stowed away on the Canadian Planter just prior to her departure for New York. The men were found in the hold. Some five months ago they liad arrived at Auckland as titowaways on the Albion Star, and had l>een dealt with in Auckland. Later they vralked to Waihi and worked there for iibout two months, and then returned to Auckland, where they stowed awav on the Canadian Planter and landed at Wellington, They again stowed away on "the j.aroe ship and came on to Lyttelton, and had intended to get away on the same vessel lor New York. When arrested tbey stated they had had nothing to eat for 24 hours, and had done no work i r >r about eight weeks, not having been able to obtain work. They were billing u> work if they could get it. The magistrate said there was no suggestion of dishonesty about the men. They did na:."appear to be gaolbirds. Ho Suggested the Seamen's Institute would assist then', to get work. He did ne* want to setad them to prison, and ordered them to come up for sentence in a week.
