THE PORT OF AUCKLAND.
SLACK TIME ON WATERFRONT.
SEVERAL STEAMERS EXPECTED.
Work on the waterfront at Auckland is very slack at present. The only vessels handling cargo in port yesterday were the West Hepburn, Kanna, Joan Craig, Kekerangu, Maindy Lodge, and Cardinia. Of these, the West Hepburn and the Kanna sailed for Wellington last evening. The Maindy Lodge is expected to leave for Newcastle to-day, and . the Kekerangu will follow her on Saturday. During the next few days, however, a number of steamers are due, and should giv e employment to a large number of men. The Kaiwarra is expected to arrive from Newcastle to-day with about 3300 tons of ooal. The mail steamer Niagara is due from Vancouver tomorrow with passengers and cargo, as also is the Ulimaroa with passengers and cargo from Sydney. The Wingatui, laden with produce from Lyttelton, 'should arrive to-morrow night. Th e Hatipara, from Sabine, Gulf of Mexico, is due on Saturday morning with a cargo of sulphur, and on Sunday the Arahura is expected to arrive from Napier and Gisborne with passengers and mails.
