JASCHA HEIFETZ.
The forthcoming concerts to be given by Jascha Heifetz, the great violinist, at the Town Hall on August 3, 6, and 10. under the direction of Messrs. J. and N! Tait. are being eagerly awaited, for the violinist is preceded by a great "reputation. Heifetz had an extraordinary experience during the Russian revolution. A band of looters entered his home and took everything they could lay hands upon, except- his treasured violin, which their leader handed back to him with a hope that he would long be spared to nlay it. He had heard Heifetz play in Pe'trograd in happier days. After this and many other similar adventures, the violinist and his family managed to leave Russia, and he then commenced his world tour. It is stated . that at the close of one of Heifetz's recent concerts in the Melbourne Town Hall, the audience refused to leave the building, though the lights were lowered, until the violinist returned to the platform and played a fifth encore. At his final matinee in Melbourne it was estimated that over 2000 people had to be turned away from the 'doors. The box plans for the three Auckland concerts open on Friday morning at Lewis Eady's. Applications are now being received for *?he concession vouchers available to musical students and scholars from schools and colleges.
