. Dr. H. Hutson has resigned his position as medical superintendent of the Wanganui Hospital Colonel Freyberg, V.C., who has been visiting New Zealand for the past fewweeks, left Wellington for England on Saturday. Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., has gone to Wellington pn duty as chairman of tha Teachers' Grading Appeal Board. He will be away for about a month. The Rev. E. C. Maiden, curat* of St. Alban's, who leaves shortly to take np his new duty as vicar of " Little River parish, Canterbury, preached his farewell sermon in Auckland on Sunday evening. Mr. J. Park, Mayor of Onehunga, who has been confined to his home for a fortnight through ill-health, has recovered sufficiently to resume his official duties. He presided at the meeting of the Borough Council last evening. The Hon. George Fowlds was yesterday re-elected chairman, and Professor A. P. W. Thomas vice-chairman of the Auckland University College Council. Mr. Fowlds left last evening for Wellington o" business connected with the proposed new arts building. Dr. P. H. Buck (Te Rangibiroa) has been notified that he has been awarded by the Otago University the S. Percy Smith prize for published researches in Mrori and Polynesian technology and Maori anthropometry. The prize was instituted as an honour to be conferred on any graduate of the university who produced any original work on anthropology. The work for which the award was made ■was the lecture on " The Pre-European Settlement of New Zealand," delivered by Dr. Buck on June 27 at the Auckland Institute.
