[BY VELEGRATH. —OWS COEXESPONDENT.J IOJTAMATAj Tuesday. The Matamata Town Board has purchased about five acres of land from Mr. G. Garland at Okauia, for a road to the -water headworks. The waterworks engineer, Mr. Lockie Gannon, informed the Town Board at its last meeting- that owing to the recent shipping strike, steel had not been forthcoming for the manufacture of pipes ior the water headworks. The company had. however, informed him that it would be in a position to recommence the supply ' during the next four weeks. • The clerk xeported to the Matamata j County Council that the financial position of each ridkig at the end of the j financial year, March 31, wad as follows : I Matamata riding credit balance, £2213 Os ' 7d; Patetere riding debit balance, £737 5s sd; Putaruru riding debit, £2317 12s 7d; Taotaoroa riding debit, £267 4s Maungatautiri riding debit, £106 4b IdVerv good progress is being made with the installation of the reticulation pipes for the water supply in the Matamata township. In the outskirts a large number of smaller pipes have been laid anct in Arawa Street, the 4-inch mains have been put in. The 6-inch pipes are to* being installed in Towel 1 Boad. Ilia work is being carried out economically on the day labour system. a~.;a*x The Matamata Tennis Ch* has decided to affiliate with the South Tennis Association, and the Matamata Rugbv the South TTnion. There will be at least fosr_se-Jor. in the Matamata competitions.,
