POLICE COURT NEWS.
NUMBER OF MINOR. CASES. A number* of minor cases were dealt with by Mr. J. W. Poynton, S.M., in the Police Court yesterday. A fine of '£5, in default 14 days' imprisonment, was inflicted on Asher Edwards, who admitted having committed an indecent act in Victoria Street while drunk. For having used obsoene language in Albert Street when drunk, Joseph Healey was fined £2. Matthew Aldersoa was charged with having been absent •without leave from the steamer Trewinnard. Mr. Sullivan, who appeared for the master, said that accused had gone ashore without leave, returned to the vessel under the influence of drink, and wanted to fight the second engineer. This sort of conduct was the cause of considerable trouble. Accused was fined two days' pay. He said be was willing to return to the vessel. A fireman on the Riverina, Ander Anderson Hangaard, admitted being absent without leave from the vessel, and having landed in New Zealand without a passport. It was stated that accused came from Australia, having signed on at Sydney. The company bad' made, arrangements to take him back. Accused was ordered to be deported to Sydney, being remanded till April 19, when the vessel is expected to sail. Roy Ericson, who had also attempted to land without a passport, was also ordered to be deported to Sydney, and was remanded till April 19.
