SENTENCE ON LA BARTE.

SEVEN YEARS' PENAL SERVITUDE. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. April 12. Thomas Butler la Barte, who shot his wife dead at Moss Vale, and was adjudged insane by the jury, has been sentenced to seven years' penal servitude. He was remanded to come up for trial when called 'upon on the charge of murdering Constable Mitchell. After shooting his wife La Barte summoned the police by telephone, but on their arrival prevented them from entering the house for some time. Constable Mitchell was shot in attempting to make an entry. La Barte, who is 28 years of age, rose from private to the rank of major in the Imperial Army. His wife was 26 years of age.
