OPENING OF THE INQUEST.
EVIDENCE OF HOSPITAL DOOTOtt.
An inquest was opened by Mr. YV. It. Mckean, S.M., yesterday concerning the death of the eight year-old boy, Andrew J. Strong, who died at tho Auckland Hospital on Sunday morning as the result of being run over by the Blockhouse Bay motor-bus on the Manukau Road, Avondale, on Saturday.
Dr. A. T. Begg, of the hospital staff, said the lad was admitted to the hospital at 2.45 p.m., suffering from severe shock. He was treated until 7.46 p.m., -when an operation was performed by Dr. E. H. B. Milsom, but the boy failed to rally and died next morning at 4.30. He had sustained a long woui.d over the right hip and internal injuries, death being due to shock following these severe injuries. In reply to the coroner witness said the boy's life could not have been saved had he been brought to the hospital two hours earlier. Witness assisted at the operation. The inquest was adjourned.
