The smash seriously endangers the country's financial position. It ia. understood that the sudden fall in sugar prices caused the collapse, which may extend to other large banks. Several institutions, among which was the National Bank, attempted to take advantage of the moratorium to negotiate loans in New York for many millions of ready money to tide over the difficulty, but failed.
