CANDIDATE WITHDRAWS. [bt telegraph.—PßESS association.] WELLINGTON. Monday. It was announced to-day that Mr. Leo McKenzae had decided to retire from the Mayoral contest. At a meeting at Jtarori to-night he fully explained his decision. His retirement leaves Mr. R A Wright M.P., and the Hon. T. W. Hudop, in the field to oppose the Official Labour nominee, Mr. P. Hickey. An independent committee heard the claims of Messrs. Mc&enzie and Hislop, both candidates committee. It was decided to ask Mr McKenzie to retire and to testify to the public soint shown by both in submitting the question to an independent tribunal
