The Prime Minister, Signor Giolitti, has issued a decree embracing the cities and provinces of Modena, Ferrara, and Bologna, revoking permission to carry firearms. It orders the prefects to take immediate steps effectively to disarm the population. The Chamber of Labour at Bologna was destroyed by fire. Nationalists overpowered the military, set fire to every room and burned the place to the ground. The building hitherto has been the headquarters of Communistic Socialism in Italy. The contents, which were destroyed, included vast archives relating to the entire ramifications of the movement throughout Italy. Cafes, theatres and public resorts in the disturbed provinces have been closed. Armoured cars patrol Modena. Nationalists raided the premises of the journal Av&nti and set fire to a book store.
