FIRST DAY'S TENNIS.

TRIBUTE TO A. F. WILDING. FIVE SECONDS OF SILENCE. OPENING OF THE MATCH. All arrangements for today's opening | matches are now complete. The suggestion contained in yesterday's Herald that, a tribute should 1 be paid to the memory of the late Captain A. F. Wilding lias been adopted. The committee has decided that just previous to the I commencement of the first match a white flag will be displayed at the north-west corner of the ground as a signal. All those j present are expected to rise and remain standing for five seconds, when the flag will be lowered and play will proceed. The Governor-General and his staff will attend today's matches. The players have asked the committee to request that the public shall remain stationary during play. It is desired that there shall be no movement in the stand by spectators taking up or changing their seats. This should be done while the piayers are changing from one end of the court to the other. The public is requested strictly to observe this point of tennis etiquette. The following will act as line umpires, for the first day, attending at the secretary's office at 1 p.m.:—Drs. Laurenscn Allison, and Abbott, and Messrs. E. W. Griffiths, H. Snellmg, H. W. Cooke. G. G. Aitken. S. L. Bartleet, A.' Wallace, and A. A. Martin. An impression is general that all re served seats are booked up, but this is not correct. There are plenty of good seats still available. Tickets for reserved seats may be purchased at, Messrs. Partridge's shop. Queen Street up to 11 o'clock this morning, and for the unreserved (eastern) stand at Messrs. Lewis Jiady's, up to the same hour. The sale will then be transferred to the ticket-office at the Domain, and tickets may be purchased there for to-day's events only. Bookings for the second and third day will be available at Messrs. Partridge and Company's shop up to 11 o'clock on each day in question, when the arrangements for sale will be similar to those obtaining for to-day.
