The director of vocational training stated to-day that the number of soldier patients on the vocational training roll during November was 1024. The percent--1 age of patients receiving instruction at hospital, where classes were maintained, was 85.4 for the whole of New Zealand. In the Wellington district the percentage was 90, in the Otago district 88, in the 1 Canterbury district 84.9, and in the Auck- ! land district 76.8. The soldiers' recreation funds are benefiting very considerably from the profits made by the sale of articles manufactured in vocational workshops. During November the sum of £450 was paid into these funds, which are administered by the patients at each hospital for their own benefit. In the Wellington district alone £1329 has been paid into the recreation I funds during the past year, and disbursed j among the patients. The defendant proposed to establish a poultry farm at the Pukeora Military Sanatorium for the combined purpose of giving patients vocational training, and > sunnlving the sanatorium with eggs and poultry. It is expected thrtt the farm will be in working order in February, with accommodation for 1000 birds. A competent instructor is being appointed, and the patients will be given intensive courses. On completing their courses the men will receive certificates of proficiency.
