The Manuka sailed at noon to-dav for New Zealand, carrying the members of the New South Wales tennis team and other passengers. There is no likelihood of the stewards' strike being settled. The coastal branch of the Merchant Service Guild to-day j passed a motion expressing svmpathy | with the stewards. The latter state that the fight is going to be one to a finish. Possibly the whole waterside unions will be involved. The shipowners are also determined, a proof of which is the HuddartParker's cancelling of the sailing of the RKerina to-day, although the vessel could have sailed before the men's notice expired. Other companies are having their vessels towed from the wharves to an anchorage, where they will remain until the dispute is settled. Almost all the stewards who sailed in the Manuka are New Zealanders. The Union Company is still hopefnl of despatching the Maheno to-morrow. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Dec. 23. The crew of the Bteamer Westralia have been paid off, and the vessel has been added to the list of idle craft. The steamers Kaitangata, Paloona and Kaituna are also expected to be put out of j commission.
