INTER-ISLAND SERVICE.
NO INTERRUPTION LIKELY. MEN NOT ANXIOUS TO STRIKE. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Monday. It is now stated that there is not likely to be any interruption of the local steamer service in consequence of action bv the cooks and stewards during the holidays. The men themselves are very half-hearted about a strike, and some say openly they are not going to " pull the chestnuts out of the fire " for others. Moreover, they recognise that the Christmas and New Year holidays induce so many people to travel that it is a profitable time for tips. Indeed for the stewards it is the best time of the year. DUNEDIN. Monday. The position of the cooks' and stewards' dispute is that the union applied separately for an extra bonus of £2 a month. Their application was heard last week, but judgment (which would be binding) has not yet been -delivered by the Court. The case differs from that, of ordinary daily workers, in that the applicants are fed and lodged on ships.
