FIRST TEST MATCH.
AUSTRALIA'S CHANCES. APPROVAL OF THE TEAM. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY. Dec. 10. The Sydney Morning Herald states that the Australian team for the first test match should meet with general approval. It is a thoroughly representative side, and appears adequately equipped in all departments. THe batting strength contains bountiful promise of runs. In bowling the team is much less formidable on paper, but may evolve some welcome surprises on hard, true wickets. The Sydney Daily Telegraph says that the team should meet" with general approval. Ten players are capable of a century at any time. First-class cricket in Australia probably never had a finer fielding combination ; only the bowling shows weakness, but it includes the best available talent. NO MATCH AT NEWCASTLE. GROUND UNDER. WATER. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 12.30 a.m.) SYDNEY. Dec. 10.
