AUTONOMY FOR EGYPT.
NEGOTIATIONS CONTINUE. A TRIBUTE TO LORD MILNER. Reuter. LONDON, Nor. 5. It was announced yesterday that the Egyptian delegation which recently returned to London to confer again with Lord Milner in regard to the proposed Anglo-Egyptian agreement for the future government of Egypt, was leaving London shortly. The delegates stated that there was no indication thus far that a; settlement was likely. The Egyptians regarded Lord Milner's scheme as unacceptable unless a number of points were agreed upon, especially the formal abolition of the protectorate. * Later, in the House of Lords', Lord Milner stated that there was no reason to suppose that the Egyptian Nationalists were generally hostile to Britain, or that the attainment of their aspirations was necessarily inconsistent with safeguarding British interests. In view of this statement the Egyptian delegation will probably postpone its departure from London in anticipation of a fresh conference with Lord Milner. Pasha, the Egyptian Nationalist leader, stated that the speech had produced a very good impression. He paid a tribute to Lord Milner's ability and sympathy, and said that Lord Milner had endeavoured to build the Empire not bv force, but by friendly means. Despite difficulties and .misunderstandings he, Zaghlul Pasha, had not abandoned hope of an agreement which all Egyptian patriots desired. The granting of independence to Egyptians would be a per'manent Anglo-Egyptian link of friendship.
